HARRIS HISTORY
FILE

Welcome to digging up the Harris Family Tree. This shows many branches of the family and in one instance as far back as the 1670's. It can be an interesting hobby, time consuming but also frustrating at times. Position in the social structure is important when studying family history, far easier to trace the prominent, whether hero or villain. This file includes photographs, census records, publications and reports which it is hoped will be of interest.

These accounts detail certain events of battles and weapons used during the Hundred Years War and Zulu War. The chroniclers of 600 years ago enthusiastically exaggerated the view of events at the battles of Crécy (26th August 1346) and Agincourt (25th October 1415). The following will give a more realistic interpretation of the history of so long ago. The battles at Isandhlwana and Rorke’s Drift (22st January 1879) during the Zulu War are historically linked having been fought on the same day. One has been heralded as a great heroic victory to mitigate the disaster of the other.

This is the diary of two long distance walks. The Pennine Way was the first "official" route created in 1965 and runs along the backbone of England. It starts at Edale in Derbyshire and finishes at Kirk Yetholm in Scotland. The Coast to Coast is not an official route but the creation of one man, Alfred Wainwright, his dream to cross northern England taking in three National Parks. Both walks are best if accompanied by others for safety.
